VK1 the New Synthetic Reed by Vandoren

The new VK reed is made of a composite material specially developed by Vandoren, the result of 7 years of research.

This fiber composite material does not imitate the structure of the reed. It reproduces the essential physical characteristics allowing the same acoustic behavior to be obtained.

Completely New

The Vandoren VK reed is truly innovative, both in terms of the material it is made of and the method of obtaining the material. It is the subject of an international patent.

The Vandoren VK reed, as well as its material, are produced in France in Bormes les Mimosas.

These reeds are 100% recyclable

6 Strengths Available

The available strengths of Vandoren VK reeds are six: 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60. The VK strengths correspond to subdivisions by three of the usual half-forces.

VK reed strengths correspond to sixths of traditional reed strength.

The VK reed is currently only available in a traditional cut for Clarinet, under the reference VK1.

Advantages of the Vandoren VK reed

Stability: The material of the Vandoren VK reed is insensitive to humidity, rot-proof, does not deform when drying and is resistant to saliva. 

Sustainability: The fatigue resistance of the Vandoren VK reed is multiplied compared to a traditional reed. It’s durability will be increased if after use it is kept on a perfectly flat surface, in a suitable reed holder.

Ease of Use: Vandoren VK reeds are ready to use straight out of the box. The material is washable and can be disinfected with alcohol or any food disinfectant.

Reproducibility: Two reeds of the same strength are strictly identical. Sensation of strength, timbre, detached, projection, treble stability, etc.

Nothing varies from one reed to another.

Safety: Vandoren VK reeds comply with the toy standard, chemical section, EU Directive 2009/48/EC, annex II – part III. The material is hypoallergenic.
